Coming soon: Market Basket announces plans to open its Maynard store

Market Basket will open its store at 6 Digital Way in Maynard on Dec. 4, said David McLean, operations manager for Market Basket.

The new 70,000-square-foot store has all the “bells and whistles,” with more than 50,000 items and a market café, a sushi bar, and a self-service soup counter, he said.

Typically, the store would open to lots of fanfare, including a ribbon cutting ceremony with speeches from town and state officials, but this year, because of the pandemic, they will forego the ceremony to concentrate on safety.

“We’re going to be here for a long time,” said McLean. “If you don’t come opening day that’s OK.”

This will be Market Basket’s 84th store and the fourth one to open during the pandemic, he said.

Expect one-way aisles, plexiglass at the cash registers, and a limited number of shoppers when the new store opens.

“We’ve been able to bring safe shopping and as part of our orientation with our new associates we stress it’s safety before sales. We want our customers to be safe and we want our associates to be safe,” said McLean.

The store will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, with daily senior hours from 6 to 7 a.m.

“We are looking forward to opening the new store in Maynard and presenting it to our customers and hopefully everyone is excited to have a new supermarket,” McLean said.
